Welcome to Mossy Rock Farm!
We are a small hobby farm nestled in a beautiful, remote corner of the West Kootenays in British Columbia. We have been building a carefully selected herd of top quality registered Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats since 2017. We focus heavily on high milk production, easy hand milking (good teat and orifice size, soft udder texture), excellent conformation, well supported, correct mammary systems and easygoing personalities. We hand milk our does day in and day out, and love having fresh milk on hand for the family, making cheeses and yogurt. We keep the does in milk for a full lactation, tracking production throughout, as longevity of lactation is another important factor in our breeding program. We participate in performance programs, with annual milk testing and in 2022 we had our first Classification - we will continue to have our herd classified when it is offered. Our herd health is of utmost importance. We test annually for CAE, Johnes and CL on all animals over 6 months of age (always negative). Our most recent test was October 2022. As of 2021, we are also enrolled in the Scrapie Flock Certification Program. |
About Nigerian Dwarf Goats
Nigerian Dwarf Goats are a breed of miniature dairy goats, originating from West Africa and developed in the USA. They can produce a surprising amount of milk for their small size, and it has the highest butterfat content of any of the dairy breeds, making it the sweetest tasting milk and excellent for cheese making. Nigerian Dwarfs are friendly and interactive, making great pets as well as dairy animals. They come in a variety of coat colours and patterns and can have blue eyes. |
