We jumped at the chance to grab this older buck when the opportunity arose! Nik is a US import from the renown Castle Rock farm, and he has proven himself over the years making lovely improvements in his daughters. He's 8 years old now, so we will be using him heavily in the time he has left breeding!
Nik has been improving dairy character and flattening bone, improving rear udder arch, area of attachment, and capacity. He thickens teats and adds wonderful pliable udder texture and big orifices, with daughters who milk down fast.
In our 2022 CGS Classification Nik scored VG89 (EVV) as a 9 year old.
His dam Annika is a stunning doe who in the words of her breeder is "very clean over the rump, stretchy, smoothly blended, with plenty of depth and width, and is one of our milkiest does." as well as having "tremendous area of udder attachment and capacity, good teat placement, and a high, wide rear udder" She's a finished champion and has earned her Superior Genetics designation. She has strong milk records and is a 2*M doe.
Nik's sire is Castle Rock Black Oak *S, a buck who was also imported into Canada and has been making huge improvements in his daughters over at Curl Creek Farm. Our doe Curl Creek Marvelous is a Black Oak daughter and we adore her! Black Oak appraised EX 93. Black Oak's dam is CH Castle Rock Sarafina 2*M 2*D EEEE 92. Her breeder says "Sarafina embodies so much of what I am aiming for in my herd. In 2011, she and Annika tied for the highest "dairyness" score in our herd, and Sarafina topped that off with an E for udder texture. She's sharp and elegant with flat bone, wide spacing between the ribs, thin dairy skin, angularity, and one of the best (widest, flatest) rumps in our herd (she got an E on rump during Linear Appraisal). Sarafina has a very good rear udder arch, easily walks around her capacious udder on very sound rear legs".
