Dam: Potting Shed MM Ashley
**Currently on lease at Cherry Ridge Farm**
I am over the moon excited to have this boy in our herd!! His pedigree is about as loaded with milk as they come, and I am really hoping to see him pass along his super milky genetics to his kids.
Asher has proven to be a fantastic buck for me, with many freshened daughters who have consistent improvements over their dams, including capacity, udder texture, teat size, medial, and in most cases improved rear udder height and fore udder attachment. His daughters are some of my favourite does here and I feel very lucky to have snagged Asher! In 2023 he earned his +S designation, which means he's had 5 daughters out of at least 3 different dams earn their *M. Every Asher daughter put on test has earned her *M on her first test.
In our 2022 classification, Asher scored VG87 (EVE). Asher measured overheight at the withers (he's extremely uphill) which docked 4 points off the final score - he would otherwise have scored EX91.
Asher's dam is Potting Shed MM Ashley. Ashley has always been a powerhouse milker, very impressive right from the start as a yearling milker, but she really went over the top with production in her 4th lactation (see weights below). She holds long and steady and is difficult to dry off. She milked through her second and third lactations without a rest. She is dairy to the extreme visually and to the touch, with a beautiful mammary system - a high and wide rear udder, nice sized teats, and is reported to be very easy to milk, with fantastic udder texture. She classified VG 86 as 2nd freshener, and has produced some gorgeous, milky daughters. Ashley's dam Maxie (EX 90 as a 4th freshener) took Grand Champion at the 2017 Canadian East National Show and is a super strong milker in her own right.
These are "spot check" milk records from Ashley's 4th lactation (2019):
DIM LBS of milk
46 7.1lbs
83 9.7lbs
135 7.9lbs
Asher's sire is Rosasharn MM Hermit Crab, a US import from the renown Rosasharn Farm. Hermit Crab classified VG87 as a yearling. His dam is SG Rosasharn HB Kujira 4*M, who is an incredibly impressive doe across the board. She's described on the Rosasharn website as "a super heavy milk producer, with a well attached udder and very long, whole-hand teats!". Kujira spent her early years as a family milker and thus wasn't on milk test, but came back to Rosasharn later in life and immediately took the #1 spot for production on the ADGA Top Ten List in 2014, milking 1510lbs in 305 days in her 6th freshening. She LA'd EEEE 91 as an 8 (almost 9) year old, and the photos of her below are taken as a 12 year old 11th freshener! This doe's longevity and productivity is truly something amazing.
Hermit Crab's paternal graddam Rosasharn TL Queen Bee is another powerhouse doe. She's a finished Grand Champion, LA'd VEEE 91, and is a very strong milker. She was on the ADGA and AGS Top Ten List for production in 2011, producing 1180lbs in just 233 days, and had a high test day of 8.4lbs.
Hermit Crab's full sister Rosasharn MM Mermaid Muriel milked 860lbs in 300 days in her first freshening. Looking forward to seeing what she does in subsequent lactations!
